IMG 0354Like any piece of electronic equipment, hearing aids need a little TLC to keep them operating at their best. To keep your hearing aid working properly here are some good daily habits to get into:

  • Do a listening check using a listening tube - make sure your hearing aid sounds clear, not muffled or scratchy
  • Check the batteries to make sure they’re at full strength
  • Clean your hearing aids regularly throughout the day with a soft, dry cloth
  • Avoid feedback by making sure your hearing aid is securely seated in your ear - feedback may indicate that the earmould is too small and needs to be replaced or that you have too much earwax in the ear canal
  • Minimise moisture by:
    • Investing in a dehumidifier or buying a hearing aid drying box kit. Remove your hearing aid batteries and store your hearing aids in the drying box every night
    • Cover your head with an umbrella or wear a hat when you know you’ll be out in the rain or snow
    • Get some hearing aid covers to protect them from sweat and moisture

Do your bit and you could keep your hearing aids working properly for longer. And don’t forget to visit your audiologist for regular checks too. They can keep tabs on how well you’re hearing and test the performance of your hearing aid.
