The venting selection for an earmould can be determined by a number of important factors. The degree of hearing loss, audiometric readings, earmould material and size/shape of the ear, all of which need to be considered.

This vent effectively reduces low frequency energy without reducing highs. Parallel vents will always be used unless specified otherwise or due to size constraints.
This is a V-shaped groove which runs along the bottom of the canal portion. It is recommended only when there is feedback problem with a parallel vent.
