Noise Action Week21 – 26 May 2018

In the modern age it’s very difficult to escape from noise. Traffic, aircraft, barking dogs and loud music are just some of the nuisance noise we live with every day.

Research shows that long-term environmental noise, above a certain level, can have a negative effect on your health. And these effects can be physical, mental and possibly even disruptive children’s learning.

Road traffic and aircraft noise has been shown to increase the risk of high blood pressure, especially noise exposure at night.

Your emotional response to noise pollution can also be significant, so much so that it has a specific name: noise annoyance. This describes the negative feelings noise can create such as disturbance, irritation, dissatisfaction and nuisance, as well as a feeling of having one’s privacy invaded.

Noise Action Week is co-ordintated every year by Environmental Protection UK. The week is an opportunity to raise awareness of the cost of noise to the health and wellbeing of communities and individuals.

We can all improve our health by turning it down and considering those around us.
