shutterstock 54103273On 3 May 1997 Katrina and the Waves represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest and won with the song, Love Shine a Light.

The winning song scored an unprecedented 227 points; it received points from all participating countries, including five sets of 10 points and a record-breaking ten sets of the maximum 12 points. Love Shine a Light is still regarded as one of the most successful Eurovision winners. The United Kingdom has five Eurovision wins and it is, to date, our last win in the Contest.

1997 wasn’t just a great year for Katrina and the Waves, it was also the year that Arlington Laboratories was founded. Since then we’ve made millions of earmoulds of all sizes, from newborns to adults, in a variety of materials, using a range of production techniques.

Arlington Laboratories was originally set up to make earmoulds for the pupils of Mary Hare School for deaf children by its former Principal, Dr Ivan Tucker.

We quickly grew to the thriving business we are today and have continued to support Mary Hare throughout the years, as 50% of our profits go to the school.

20 years on from the United Kingdom’s last win Lucie Jones will perform her song, Never Give Up On You, at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Kyiv on Saturday 13 May. Let’s hope she can repeat the success of Katrina and the Waves in our 20th anniversary year.
